County teams earn high grades

The Osceola County School Board recently named its 2009-10 Osceola Academic Champions for the fall sports of cross country, golf, swimming, volleyball, and football.
Each season, the team earning the highest grade point average in each sport from Osceola's eight public high schools is presented a certificate at a School Board meeting.
The winners are:
Boys cross country – St. Cloud, 3.704 GPA.
St. Cloud High also was the FHSAA academic team champion for Class 3A.
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were Celebration and Poinciana high schools.
Girls cross country – Harmony High School, 3.594 GPA.
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were Gateway, Celebration and St. Cloud.
Boys golf – Gateway, 3.354.
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were Harmony, Celebration and Poinciana.
Girls golf – Celebration, 3.516 GPA
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were St. Cloud and Celebration.
Boys swimming – Celebration, 3.497 GPA.
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were Gateway, Harmony and St. Cloud.
Girls swimming – Harmony, 3.455 GPA.
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were Gateway, Celebration and St. Cloud High Schools.
Girls volleyball – Osceola, 3.5 GPA.
Receiving FHSAA honorable mention were Gateway, Harmony, Celebration, Poinciana and St. Cloud.
Football – Harmony, 3.1 GPA.
Celebration received an FHSAA honorable mention.
"I am proud to recognize these student athletes for their teamwork, not only in competition, but in the classroom as well," said Superintendent Dr. Michael A. Grego. “Their success both on and off the playing field speaks to the high standards we have set for our students and the motivation they have to achieve."
