The Vehicle for Change activity offers an opportunity for students and adults to experience the rocks and ropes challenge.
Twelve schools (Discovery, Bellalago, Harmony High, Chestnut, Denn John, Horizon, Ventura, Reedy Creek, Narcoossee Elementary and Middle, Neptune Middle and Harmony Community School) have scheduled the activity on their campuses as part of their physical education curriculum for students. Many schools are also utilizing the activity as a team-building session for their faculty.
With the Ropes and Rocks Challenge, participants have the opportunity to push their mental and physical limits against perceived risks in an atmosphere of support and encouragement. Learning outcomes include: tenacity, physical fitness, teamwork, leadership, self-reliance and the ability to go beyond self-imposed limitations. The high ropes course is 26 feet in the air and features 12 unique and challenging elements. The 32-foot climbing wall has four hydraulic belays and provides an adventurous extreme sport opportunity. Ground initiative activities including orienteering and cooperative tasks provide adventure on the ground.
The climbing wall was featured at the district Wellness Fair Feb. 19 at the School District’s administrative complex. Prizes and medals were given to those who participated and "climbed to the top.”
