On Feb. 3, more than 250 fathers and their children came together to listen to Jim Hickey, pitching coach for the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team, tell humorous stories of life in the major leagues, during the All Pro Dads Breakfast at Michigan Avenue Elementary School.
Hickey, one of just seven pitching coaches in the last 50 years to go to the World Series with two different franchises, held the audience captive as he shared the adventures on the road.
What started out as a full agenda of activities quickly evolved into a one-man show as Hickey answered question after question from the children and their dads. Topics ranged from the best pitching exercises to get a young arm ready to next year’s pennant.
The meeting ended with many thanks and an impromptu autograph session.
