Davis is 6th at state lift tourney Sports Friday, 26 February 2010 08:41 By Rick Pedone Sports Editor St. Cloud junior Shaliena Davis placed sixth in the 169-pound class to lead five Osceola County lifters at the girls state weightlifting tournament Feb. 13 at New Port Richey Ridgewood High. Davis bench pressed 160 pounds and lifted 155 pounds in the clean and jerk for a total of 315 pounds. “She did 10 or 15 pounds over her average (bench press),” St. Cloud Coach Lonnie Beckel said. “She had a great meet.” Defending state champion Zanquina Ellison, of Osceola, did not get a lift in the clean and jerk after bench pressing 185 pounds. She finished 24th in the 129-pound class. Osceola’s Tynia Gaither, a state champion track sprinter, was seventh at 119 pound with lifts of 130-135-265. Also competing were Harmony’s Kristen Beumel, 15th at 110 pounds with a total lift of 225 pounds.
