Hanging on...

Christopher Smith hangs tough as his mount tries to throw him during the bareback riding competition Saturday as part of Florida High School rodeo action held at the Kissimmee Sports Arena Saturday and Sunday.

Smith and about 200 other high school students from throughout the state competed.

The students compete bi-weekly during the school year throughout the state of Florida. The top four competitors in each category get to go on to the nationals in Wyoming where they have a chance to win cash prizes and scholarships.

Events Feb. 7 and 8  included steer wrestling, goats, tie down, team roping, saddle bronc, bareback riding and bull riding.

Parker Vance tries to stay on a bull during the competition on Feb. 6.
