Poinciana By: Lisa D’Cato
Read a good book lately? Take advantage of the vast variety of books at the Poinciana Branch Library.  While you’re there, catch a few programs while catching up on your reading.
February is recognized as Black History Month and is also known for Valentine’s Day. On Monday, the library is acknowledging both.
Teens are welcome to come out Monday at 4 p.m. Though sometimes overused and not appreciated, teens get to be creative with duct tape. Do a duct tape Valentine project and show some love for this common household adhesive.
At 7 p.m. on Monday, it gets a little more serious but just as fun with this special family event. Moonlight Stories, presented by Orisirisi, will feature Don and Tom Harrell. They will showcase an interactive and amusing story-telling program that incorporates the African tradition of audience participation. This includes call-and-response, songs, African drums and dance, games and more.
Orisirisi has received critical acclaim far and wide for its unique African-rooted, educational and entertaining presentations. With various African art, Orisirisi brings different kinds of folk knowledge and experience for the audience. Don’t miss out.
Now back to that heart stuff. I’m not thinking about Valentine’s Day, but a gift that really matters. It’s billed as “Have Heart, Give Life Blood Drive” and the Little Red Bus will be at the Poinciana Library Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. Florida’s Blood Centers are looking for heroes. Besides saving lives, all donors receive a free mini-physical and glucose test as well as a surprise.
Enjoy all the library has to offer. All library programs are free and open to the public.

This year’s event will again be at Liberty High School. The date is April 23-24. So far, there are 20 teams with 128 participants. More are encouraged to join.
The next team meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Poinciana Community Center. For more information on Relay For Life Poinciana, call Ginny Brown, event chair, at 863-439-6273.
