God’s children
To the editor:
I would like to comment on the recent comments made in certain national media commentaries.
I think that it is wrong for the attacks that have been made against our president for his support of the people of Haiti. A terrible natural disaster happened there last week and for people like conservative radio talk show people to make it a political issue is just wrong.
We are all God’s children and when a terrible occurrence such as an earthquake devastates a country in this world, we all must come together no matter our politics, religious beliefs or ethnic backgrounds.
I would like to know how much money Rush Limbaugh has donated to the relief effort to help fellow human beings. Both former Presi-dent Bushes are leading the relief efforts.

A special time
To the editor:
On Saturday, Jan. 9, my wife and I decided to drive into St. Cloud for a late morning breakfast. Our choice of watering hole was to be The Koffee Kup, on 13th Street. As we approached the parking lot, we saw several Osceola County Sheriff's Office cars, with their lights on, in the parking lot.
At first, I thought there must have been a bad accident that ended up in the parking lot. But that was not the case. When we went into the restaurant, which is most recognized by a familiar phrase, “I know that’s right," by owner Big Frank, we saw numerous deputies, and other Sheriff’s Office employee’s, including Twis Lizasuain, waiting on tables, handing out pens and selling hats and T-shirts.
I know that Sheriff Bob Hansell makes a lot of money, but this is a little bit extreme.
Actually, the sheriff and his deputies were there greeting the public, serving food, cleaning plates and whatever else it takes to make a buck. Why? It seems that our sheriff and his staff are teddy bears at heart. And we all know that Frank is a giant panda bear in human skin. All of this was to raise money for the Special Olympics, to be held in May.
In the Bible, Matthew 25:31-46, we read a story about a king, and those faithful to him, and those unfaithful to him and those who care for the needy — the hungry — the “least of these.”
Frank opened his restaurant to Sheriff Hansell and his deputies, and together they and the good citizens of this county, gave — “to the least of these.” If you gave any money, bought any shirts and hats, waited on any tables or in any other way took part in this fundraiser, then you gave “to the least of these.” These children in the Special Olympics need love, and they need us to support them.
There will be other opportunities to get involved in helping Sheriff Hansell with this important event.
Thank you, and may God bless Sheriff Hansell, Frank, The Koffee Kup employees, all the Sheriff’s Office employees and anyone who gave to these precious, special gifts from God.
Now it is your turn. Get on the bandwagon, and let’s help these kids.

Question of the Week

Do you think this year's Osceola County high school graduates will find life more difficult than their parents did?
