Twenty-seven Osceola County varsity teams sported at least a 3.0 grade point average in the fall, including all eight teams from Celebration.
The CHS boys (3.020 team GPA) and girls cross-country (3.275), football (3.1, one of only four to qualify in all of Class 3A), boys (3.119) and girls golf (3.119), boys (3.497) and girls swimming (3.4) and girls volleyball (3.352) teams all were recognized as Academic Team Champions by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
“It is a testament to our hard working student-athletes and superb faculty support, and not to mention the coaches’ efforts, that allows us to stand out academically,” Athletic Director John Bangley said.
St. Cloud had six teams honored, including the boys cross country team, which led Class 3A with a 3.704 GPA. For that, the school will receive a commemorative state championship plaque.
The Bulldogs also had the boys (3.130) and girls swimming (3.316), volleyball (3.097) and girls golf (3.440) and cross country (3.193) earn honors.
Harmony’s football team (3.100, one of five in 4A) was honored for the second year in a row.
The Longhorns also saw boys (3.436) and girls cross country (3.594), volleyball (3.458), boys (3.186) and girls swimming (3.455) and boys golf (3.234) make the grade.
Gateway had five teams over the 3.0 threshold: volleyball (3.194), boys (3.207) and girls swimming (3.218), boys golf (3.354) and girls cross country (3.087).
Poinciana’s volleyball team (3.119) was recognized.
