The Veterans Tribute and Museum was out and about in Osceola County recently participating in a number of events.
The museum volunteers built a veterans commemorative float, which was used in both the Kissimmee and Orlando Veteran’s Day parades. The majestic float also was featured at the Veteran’s Day celebration at Kissimmee’s Old Town.
Several members of the museums staff and volunteer corps also pitched in to support the Osceola County School District’s 2009 Teach-In OASIS with Scott Carmean, executive director, spending a few hours at the Kissimmee Charter Academy talking to both third- and fifth-grade classes and Paul Girard going to Sunrise Elementary and Horizon middle schools to talk to students.
Volunteer Larry Mortland spent the day at a St. Cloud school, where he spoke to three classes of 10th-graders about civics, the U.S. Constitution and college prep.
The museum also welcomed several new items for exhibition: a 1942 U.S. Army Indian Motorcycle loaned by Larry Naddeo; several antique firearms; three flare pistols; a Japanese Army Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle; a U.S. Army Thompson sub-machine gun.
