A crash involving three semis on the Florida's Turnpike underneath the Boggy Creek overpass early Tuesday morning left a driver seriously injured and shut down the highway for about two hours, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of one the semis, Carlos Allois-Banos, 23, of Sarasota, was seriously injured in the crash. He was driving south on the turnpike, in the outside lane, when another semi attempted to merge into traffic from the shoulder.  Allois-Banos tried to switch lanes to avoid the incoming semi, but its front struck the rear left of Allois-Banos' trailer.

The semi driven by Allois-Banos veered left into the center median, where it collided with the guardrail.

The other semi, loaded with food, became engulfed in fire after the crash. Its driver, 35-year-old Luis Navarro, of Hialeah, suffered minor injuries. He is being charged with improper changing of lanes, troopers said.

Allois-Banos was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. His passenger, 23-year-old Albert Allois, suffered minor injuries.

After the initial crash, a third semi struck debris on the road and was disabled.

The northbound and southbound lanes of the road between U.S. Highway 192 and Osceola Parkway were closed as Osceola County Fire Rescue extinguished the fire and troopers investigated the crash. Both the road and the Boggy Creek overpass had to be inspected for damage before the roadway was reopened by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation.
