Response
To the editor:
This is in response to Mr. (Mark) Cox’s letter of Jan 2.
Mr. Cox, please check your facts before you spout such an obviously racial message.
First, state Rep. Darren Soto does not represent all of Osceola County, so naturally he would want to work for positive change in his district first, and If I’m not mistaken, that desired clinic you mention would sit near the middle of Rep. Soto’s district, which does contain some of Osceola County but a majority in Orange County. As I see the map, the parts of Osceola County he does represent seem to have a large Hispanic population but the clinic will be for everyone, sir, not just Hispanics. The URL listed here is for a map of district 49, Rep. Soto’s district. The URL is http://www.myfloridahouse.gov/FileStores/Web/District/H406H020_district_49.pdf.
Next, please remember that the “our” tax dollars you reference are also “their” tax dollars — a little sarcasm to help you understand that all Americans pay taxes. It’s not “our” and “their.” My question is, what are you so afraid of?
One thing you said I partially agree with: Yes we do need something like a PCAN in another area in Kissimmee/St. Cloud. Why didn’t our County Commission ever do anything about it, or Congressman Bill Posey or the other cadre of Republicans who have occupied Congressional district 15, which covers 90 percent of Osceola County?
Why, sir, when a Democratic state representative starts to make positive change in his district do you complain? Could it be that your party missed the boat on health care opportunity for all? Who cares if he is Hispanic? He is also an American, sir. Where has your voice been all this time when no elected official was doing a thing to open a clinic here? Or for that matter in the case of district 15’s representatives, ever even bothering to come to Osceola County unless there was some kind of see-and-be-seen party.
I, for one, applaud Darren Soto and all he does to effect positive change in his district for the good of all who live there. I’ll be continuing to try to organize my community and hoping my elected officials might get it one day and start to do things to benefit hard-working people in all corners of our county. You keep writing and complaining, but next time, maybe you should think of all of God’s children and not just Caucasians. A majority of us do not feel the way you do.
