Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s unique way of fundraising, celebrating survivors and bringing awareness to the community. It is an overnight event, with participants walking the track and luminaries shining in remembrance of those who lost their battle to cancer.
In 2009, Relay for Life was brought back to Poinciana. After a successful debut at Liberty High School, Relay for Life will again be there April 23-24. So far, there are 14 teams registered with 68 participants.
More teams are needed. To register a team, a $100 donation will make it happen. Support as well as fundraising ideas are shared at team meetings, which are at the Poinciana Community Center. The next meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 14. The group has a late dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a team meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
