St. Cloud’s Chief of Police Darryl Holliday will retire Monday, Jan. 18, the city’s public information office has announced.

Holliday has been a member of the department since Nov. 16, 1987. He worked his way up the ranks to become deputy chief and then chief in November 2008.

“During his tenure with the St. Cloud Police Department, Chief Holliday served proudly and with a strong commitment toward his employer and the community,” City Manager Tom Hurt said. “We wish him the very best during his retirement.”

Holliday submitted his letter of intention to retire to Hurt Jan. 4. In it, he stated, “It has been a pleasure to work for the city of St. Cloud during the past 22 years.”

Holliday in the letter also thanked Hurt for his support and for the opportunity to serve in “this most prestigious position.”

Deputy Chief Vinny Shepard will serve as interim police chief until a new chief of police is selected. The police chief position is open for applications and closes Feb. 15.

The process of applications review and interviews will be completed within a few weeks after the closing date.
