STEARNS- Theodore Franklin Stearns, known by everyone as “Ted, ” was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 1, 1937. He was the only child born to Theodore Emmons Stearns and Stella May Goheen Stearns.
His parents moved from Tuscaloosa to Rochester, NY when Ted was only 9 month old. He lived in Rochester through his teen years, attending college in the area. Ted loved sales, and spent his energy on becoming the best salesperson in his field. He loved people and people loved him. He was a great peacemaker, and he thought before he spoke. He worked himself up the ladder of success to become the Regional Vice President of Grolier Society, Inc. He was over a tri-state area. Ted had a great work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
At the age of 36, he started his own business. He was living in the Chicago area at the time. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1979 and lived there with his wife and family for 32 years. This business of small beginnings has grown into quite a success story today. In 2001, Ted retired and sold his ownership in the company to his business partner Tom Lyons of Overland Park, KS. In 2002, he changed residence, as well as states. He moved to sunny Florida into a 55+ community of active adults, “Solivita.”
Ted loved to line dance. The electric slide was his favorite. You could always find him on the dance floor when that song was played. He was an ardent lover of all sports; football was his favorite, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved that team, but even more he loved the team of the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Living Water Fellowship for almost seven years. Ted simply loved the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. His heart was for people. He was the head coordinator of the men’s ministry “MIC” (Men in Christ) as well as coordinating the small connecting point groups.
Ted is survived by his wife of 35 years, Glenda Passmore Stearns; three sons: Craig and wife Julie, Todd and fiancé Nancy, Brian and wife Michelle; two daughters: Renee and husband George, Jalen and husband Robert; twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren and former wife Winifred Martin Stearns. No words can express our great loss or how much he is and will be missed by his family and close friends. He is dearly loved.
A viewing was held at Living Water Fellowship on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.
