MYERS - Dorothy Elizabeth Tjiattas Myers, 78, went to be with the Lord July 6, 2009. Born in Pennsylvania, she moved with her family first to Tampa, FL and then to Osceola County in 1966 and spent 26 years of a 40 year teaching career as an elementary school teacher with Osceola County Schools.
She shared her life-long love of books with hundreds of children during those years by reading aloud many of the great books of children's literature. She continued to share that skill in reading aloud with her friends at Savannah Court, where she had resided for the past four and a half years. She had a passion for the theatre, a love of folk music, traveling and history and enjoyed sewing and other handicrafts. Most of all, she loved her family. When her grandchildren were small, she loved taking them on “adventures.”
She is survived by her son and daughter, William Thomas (Billy) Myers and Mary Ruth Johnsen; daughter-in-law, Sherree Myers; son-in-law, Terry Johnsen; grandchildren: John Johnsen and William Thomas Myers III, Samantha Myers, Danielle Myers; great-granddaughter Eleanor Myers and brother, George Tjiattas.
She and the family wish to thank the staff at Savannah Court and of the Hospice of the Comforter for their kindness and loving care.
