HUMBLE – A. Donovan “Don” Humble, of Kissimmee, passed away Friday, April 11th, 2008.
Born in Kentucky on October 2nd, 1933, Don lived most of his life in Kissimmee where he graduated from Osceola High School. He was an avid baseball player and fan, drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates after graduation from high school in 1951. Due to injuries, his career was cut short. He then joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 4 years during the Korean War. After his stint in the military he tried his hand at baseball once again, graduating from a Professional Baseball Umpire School. He enjoyed a career as a Professional Baseball Umpire for the Minor Leagues.
Ultimately his “life” career was in the Insurance Business. He was employed by the State of Florida, Department of Insurance for 35 years, until retirement. Don was a member of the Elk’s Lodge and enjoyed monthly lunches with the OHS Golden Grads.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Anna Rolls Humble. He is survived by 4 daughters; Sandra Humble Thompson (Jon), Catherine Wakefield Swingle (Jim), Donna Griffin Wolk (Dan), and Lauren Luann Griffin Hoffman (Eric), 7 grandchildren; Austin & Audra Thompson, Wesley Bullen, Richard, Nicholas & Mitchell Wolk, Felicia Hoffman, and 2 sisters; Joan H. Miller of Kissimmee and Joyce H. King of Spring Hill.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Osceola Memory Gardens for family and friends of Don “Poppy” Humble. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Diabetes or Heart Associations.
