Neptune Middle sweeps county basketball titles

Neptune Middle School swept the boys and girls Osceola County Middle Schools Athletic Conference basketball championships last week. The Lady Seahawks (7-0) completed a perfect season by defeating Horizon Middle, 34-28.
Eighth-graders Julia Simmons (14 pts., 8 reb.) and Gabby Jones led the Seahawks, who clinched their fourth consecutive county championship.
“I am so very excited for this group of young ladies,” Coach Katie Adams said. “They have worked tremendously hard all season to reach their goals and I am very proud of the effort they have given. To win four straight county championships is an incredible feat and speaks to the dedication and pride that these girls have demonstrated. They certainly have created a foundation for success and I couldn’t be happier for them.”
The Neptune boys (7-1) upended top-seeded Parkway Middle, 43-36, for the county crown.
Tervin Florent (18 pts., 7 reb.), an eighth-grader, led the Seahawks.
“I had the best group of young men to work with, and despite adversity, our mission was never in jeopardy,” Seahawks Coach Sanjay Brown said. “We accomplished what we set out to do by accepting a philosophy of endurance while working to achieve our goals one step at a time.”
The OCMSAC all-county boys and girls basketball teams also were released by Ryan Adams, the Osceola County coordinator of athletics:
