The Gateway wrestling team celebrated senior night with a 41-31 win against Viera Monday at the John Ramirez gym.

The victory capped the duals season, which saw the Panthers defeat Timber Creek, 37-30, Jan. 10 then sweep seven matches at Manatee’s tournament last weekend.

The Panthers defeated Manatee (34-30) and Jupiter (32-21) to win the tournament.

“Austin Seward stepped up and got a huge pin for us to secure each win,” Coach Jon Smorin said. “Viera was a great final dual for the year and gave our seniors a great night to go out on at home. I’m proud of our guys to finish the dual part of the year on a nine-match winning streak.”

The Panthers are preparing for the upcoming district tournaments by traveling to the Brandon Ippolito tournament today and Jupiter’s John Raich tournament next week.

“We have a lot of work still to do. Hopefully our guys keep up the momentum that we have gained the last few weeks and we keep peaking at the right time.”
