Being the third largest community in Central Florida (behind Orlando and Lakeland), one would think Poinciana would be near the top of many lists to receive the necessary funding for assuring the residents of this community were provided for.

Over the past years, this has not been the case.  If not for the efforts of so many community leaders, active residents, and elected officials, Poinciana could have gone in a much different direction.  From visits to Tallahassee to being vocal at commission meetings, today Poinciana is positioned to be one of the most attractive communities in the area.

One of the key pieces of this community is the much-needed Poinciana Hospital. Construction is nearing completion, with the facility is slated to open later this year.

Under the leadership of Joanna Conley, who was named CEO of this facility earlier this week, Poinciana residents will find a hospital that will be there for the community.  The peripheral business that will come to Poinciana as a result of the medical facility will certainly boost economic development.

Critically important to all Poinciana residents is the ability to move around the community, and have the easy access to travel outside Poinciana in a reasonable time frame.

According to the 2010 Census, Poinciana residents have the longest median travel time to work (41 minutes).  The completion of the Poinciana Parkway, increased Lynx service, and SunRail will all create a more efficient infrastructure.  Not only will this allow residents faster access to their destinations, but it will also be a catalyst for continued economic growth.

Poinciana has overcome many challenges.  The community is poised to keep fighting for their piece of the pie on every front.  When you visit Poinciana, the volunteerism, community pride, and focus on developing a strong positive image are tangibly visible

It’s a new day in Poinciana, one that we look forward to watch grow in the coming years.
