Ten Osceola County female weightlifters earned places at the sectional weightlifting meet after winning at the sub-sectional at Poinciana Wednesday.

St. Cloud led the way with six qualifiers. Harmony had two and Gateway and Poinciana each had one.

St. Cloud’s qualifiers were Diana Gatlin (225-pound total lift) at 101, Madison Clayton (230) at 110, Ashley Sauer (270) at 119, Sarah Boroski (315) at 129, Prisca Charles (270) at 139 and Haley Weber (290) at 199.

Harmony’s Lauren Harris (270) qualified at 154 and Addison Hickey (275) won at 183.

Gateway’s Stephanie Carrillo (270) qualified at 169 and Bianca Browne (310) from Poinciana was the unlimited winner.

Several more local lifters may qualify for the sectional as at-large qualifiers.

“I’m hoping we can get nine in,” St. Cloud Coach Lonnie Beckel said. “We had a couple of girls who could have lifted more weight, but this isn’t the meet you are trying to set school records. You’re just trying to advance.”

The sectional meet is at Timber Creek Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. Those advancing from the sectionals will compete at the Florida High School Athletic Association state meet at the Kissimmee Civic Center next month.
