Kissimmee police arrested a career criminal on Thursday after he allegedly committed retail theft in a local department store.

According to police reports, Kissimmee officers responded to the Walmart store at 4444 W. Vine St. in Kissimmee in response to a retail theft that was committed.  While officers were on the scene, the suspect, Booker Tyrone Austin, 47, of Kissimmee, returned to the store to commit another retail theft, reports said. Austin would use a knife to cut the packaging containing GPS units off and take them off the shelves. As Austin attempted to leave the store, officers apprehended him without incident.

Austin cooperated with the officers and was transported to the Osceola County Jail where he was held on $250 bond.  Austin has an extensive criminal history including a conviction in a 1988 homicide, where he served more than 20 years in the Department of Corrections.
