The Kissimmee Police Department is encouraging residents to participate in project Blue Light while decorating their homes for the holidays.

The department is asking all residents to place a blue light in a window of their home from now until New Year’s Day to show support for those officers killed in the line of duty and those who continue to work keeping America’s streets safe.

“By placing a blue light at your home, office and throughout the community, law enforcement officers will understand that the work they do daily is appreciated by the citizens they serve,” spokeswoman Stacie Miller said.

Police Chief Lee Massie said he wished the community a safe and happy holiday season on behalf of his department.

“The color blue is symbolic of peace,” Massie said.

“By displaying your blue lights you are sending a dual message: you support America’s peacekeepers and that you’re hopeful the New Year will be a year of peace.”
