Update, 3 p.m.: The truck driver was airlifted to an unidentified local hospital. Traffic lanes were recently opened, but the highway is backed up for miles and drivers are cautioned to try to find an alternate route for the afternoon.

An overturned tractor trailer hauling sod traveling northbound on Florida's Turnpike overturned in the median just after 11 a.m. at mile marker 247 has the roadway shutdown between U.S. Highway 192 and Osecola Parkway.

Both north and southbound lanes were shut down for emergency crews, FHP spokesperson Kim Montes said. Northbound travelers were forced to exit the roadway at 192, and southbound travelers at Osceola Parkway. Troopers expect the roadway to be blocked into the afternoon while they attempt extricate the driver and clean up the scene.
