A repeat offender and convicted felon with a criminal record in multiple states was arrested Thursday and charged with sexual battery and aggrevated battery.

He told detectives he would continue to offend in this manner if kept out of jail, authorities said.

Just after 11 p.m. Thursday, Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to a Tampa Avenue residence in Kissimmee after receiving several disturbance calls from witnesses. Upon arrival, deputies entered the residence and located the suspect, identified as Carl Capers, 41, sexually battering a female victim who was badly beaten and bleeding, Sheriff's Office reports said. The investigation revealed Capers had been renting a room at the residence for "a few months," while the victim had lived there a little over a week.

Capers cooperated with detectives and based on his statements and information obtained during the investigation, he was arrested without incident and charged with sexual battery and aggravated battery. The arresting officers noted the indication Capers was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

He was booked into the Osceola County Jail with no bond.

Capers, a convicted felon, was released from the North Carolina Corrections Department in January after serving time for a similar offense, the detectives' investigation revealed. Since relocating to the area, deputies have had several documented incidences with Capers. On two occasions, he was admitted to a treatment center for mental health issues in relation to a Baker Act situation in which he threatened to rape another woman, saying during his arrest Thursday he had no remorse for what he did and that he "warned" law enforcement of his intent to commit this type of crime the previous week.

"Detectives interviewed him and in the interviews he indicated that if he was let out of jail he'd continue to commit these types of crimes,"  Lizasuain said. "So clearly this is a dangerous individual that needs to be in jail."

The victim appeared to have head trauma at the scene, detectives said, and was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition, where she also received stitches to her face.
