Fishin’ Fun

This past week, bass fishing has definitely picked up.  Clyde Gilson, a friend of mine from Wyoming, spends five months here every year.  He just got here a couple of weeks ago, and we have spent quite a bit of time out on the water fishing for bass. This past week we have caught around 40 bass. We haven’t caught any big, big bass, but we have caught quite a few in the 5-pound range.  Most of them we’ve caught by trolling out in open water.  Five- to 7-feet of water seems to be the best fishing.

If you’ve been out on the water lately, you may have noticed that spraying for hydrilla has begun.

The hydrilla that has been scheduled to be sprayed by airboats has started. I assume that spraying with helicopters will soon follow.  Most of the spraying that I’ve witnessed has been on the north part of the lake. I’m sure a lot of homeowners are happy to see that getting done.

I talked to spec fisherman Bill Ulp Wednesday morning and he told me he has been catching 15 to 20 specs per trip. He has been catching them on live minnows around marker 26.

Bluegills and shell crackers are still being caught, but have slowed down somewhat.

Remember, you can’t catch fish if you’re not fishing.  So get out on the water and give it a shot.
