Athletes from four county high schools will compete today and Friday at the state swimming and diving meets at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center.
Swimmers and divers from Harmony and St. Cloud compete today at the Class 2A meet beginning at 9 a.m.
Athletes from Gateway and Osceola will compete Friday at the Class 3A meet at 9 a.m.
Harmony, the Orange Belt Conference and 2A-7 district champion, is represented by junior Luke Roberts, who competes individually in the 50 (22.50) and 100 (48.43, school record) freestyle races and on two relays.
The Longhorns also qualified in the 200 free relay (1:30.29, John Roberts, Michael Driscoll, Peter Swafford, Luke Roberts) and the 400 free relay (3:19; Luke Roberts, Swafford, Sam Steele, John Roberts).
“We haven’t had times like these since 2008,” Horns Coach Terry Brown said. “Hopefully, these guys can get a medal (top eight).”
Also competing today at the Class 2A meet is St. Cloud diver Madison Clayton (321.60).
At the 3A meet Friday, Osceola freshman Josh Cancel will swim in the 200 free (1:55.14) and 500 free (5:13.14).
Divers Jordan Parrish (375.70) and Josue Herrara (420.90) also will compete for OHS.
Parrish competed at the state meet last year,
Gateway will have representatives at the state meet for the first time in several seasons.
Freshman Walker Brooks competes in the 200 IM (2:07.97) and the 100 breast stroke (1:05.34).
Sophomore Josh Longfield will compete in the backstroke (1:03.54).
