Jacque Mitchell
Fishin’ Fun

Back on the lake again after being foiled by Hurricane Sandy and her aftermath last week. Man, does it feel good!

I went out Wednesday morning to locate some fish for upcoming guide trips. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that quite a few bass have moved way back inside to about 3 feet of water.

I had been catching them offshore in up to 8 feet.

The water has cooled down quite a bit since the change in weather and the bass are more active now. I’ve talked to several fishermen who tell me they are catching bass on top water lures, Rat-L-Traps and spinner baits. I’ve been catching most of mine on soft plastics. Fishing pretty slow.

I’ve also had good luck throwing a Carolina Rig on the shell beds.

A 6-inch trickworm and a speed worm have worked best for me.  Shiner fishing is also picking up.

Most of the guides are reporting good catches in the last couple of weeks. Some are anchoring up along hydrilla edges and others are trolling open water where there is scattered hydrilla.

The Xtreme Bass Tournament Trail will have their year-end Classic tournament this weekend. It will be interesting to see how many big fish are caught then.

I’m sure the cooler weather will get the specs fired up as well. It’s been so windy the last couple of weeks, that not a lot of boats have been out there trying.

Some nice bluegills are still being caught off the fishing piers and in the boat cuts. Crickets and worms are still your best bet.
