Worms and eyeballs and bears- oh my! No, we don’t live in a modern day Oz, but if you read to the end, it will all make sense.
On Sunday, Oct. 28, the Rotary Club of Kissimmee South/ Poinciana present worms and eyeballs (a spaghetti and meatball dinner). This is a fundraiser to support “The Dictionary Project.” This service project buys dictionaries for every third grader in Poinciana.
From 1 to 6 p.m., enjoy an all you-can-eat buffet style meal in a canopied area in front of Pazza Luna Restraint, 2932 Pleasant Hill Road (Pazza Luna is where this Rotary club meets every Friday morning, 7:30 a.m.) . There will be children’s games, prizes for best kid’s costume and a silent auction. Dinner is $15 per adult, which includes one child free. Additional children 2 to 12 are $3 each.
Tickets may be purchased from Kissimmee South/Poinciana Rotary members or at the door. For more information, call 407- 847-9938.

Enjoy some treats while supporting a good cause. The Friends of the Poinciana Branch Library will hold a Halloween Bake Sale on Tuesday, Oct. 30, starting at 10 a.m. The Poinciana Library is at 101 North Doverplum Ave.
The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) will have its annual Halloween Party Wednesday, Oct. 31. Children to age 12 may come in costume and trick or treat in a safe environment. The Halloween event will be at the Poinciana Community Center, 395 Marigold Ave., from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 7, Polk County’s Sheriff’s deputies responded to several locations in Poinciana responding to calls of black bear sightings. The area of the sighting included Redwing Court, Spoonbill Court Sheldrake Road in Poinciana Village 7. Wilderness areas exist to the north, west and south. The sighting occurred during the late night, pre-dawn hours.
The bear (or bears) were described as being approximately 250 pounds and was seen rummaging through the garbage.
Just a reminder that Poinciana is still inhabited by wildlife and is a nature lover’s paradise. Be mindful.
