Fishin’ Fun

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more specs being caught right now than there are bass.  It seems that since we’ve been in the full moon phase, the bass have not been cooperative.
I shouldn’t say all the bass but the bigger bass for sure.  It’s been pretty common for me to go out in the mornings and catch five to 10 bass, but most of them have been on the small side.
Bass seem to be feeding on small shad early and then soft plastics and top water lures later. I’ve seen plenty of bass schooling this past week, but again, they’re running on the small side.
My suggestion would be to just hang in there. We’ve got plenty of water flowing into the lake and there are a lot of places back inside that you can fish now. The moon is fading away, so I’m pretty sure the bass fishing will pick up.
Some really nice specs are being caught out in the open water north and east of Makinson Island. Some of the fishermen are trolling and some are just drifting, but they are all out in 8 to 10 feet of water. Small jigs and minnows are both working. Shell crackers and bluegills are also being caught in good numbers. Worms and crickets are the baits of choice.
The edges of hydrilla and shell beds in 4 to 6 feet of water is where most of them are being caught.
