To the Editor:

‘It is a shame that only 15 percent of the registered voters turned out in the Aug 14 primary election. Perhaps there is a  reason?

Is there really a need to have two separate election dates both in November and in August? Most people will sacrifice one day of work to vote but why must they sacrifice two?

Absentee ballots are a solution but not everybody understands how to obtain one.

Current Florida law discourages ‘get out the vote campaigns’.

Why not move to a single election day in November instead of two? Yes some party primaries need to be decided early but most could be held in November.

Or is there a reason behind all this? Do certain segments of the Osceola political establishment try to force multiple election dates in order to gain a vote advantage from one class of voters over another?

Look who sponsored the Non-Partisan County Commission question on the Nov ballot which would allow commission races to be decided on primary day?  That may provide the answer?

Should the government serve the people? Or should people be forced to sacrifice their work schedule in order to participate in government elections? That is the question?
