Panthers fall

Orange City University overcame a 13-0 deficit to beat Gateway, 20-13, Thursday in a non-district football game.

Chase Smith returned a fumble for a first period touchdown, and Zach Smith ran 68 yards later in the first quarter for Gateway.

The Panthers had a 90-yard interception return nullified by a penalty.

Gateway slipped to 2-1 and hosts St. Cloud next week for its district opener.

OBC volleyball

The Orange Belt Conference volleyball championship is at stake Tuesday when St. Cloud visits Harmony at 7 p.m.

St. Cloud defeated Osceola, 3-1, Wednesday to up its conference record to 5-0. A victory at Harmony, the two-time conference champion, would give St. Cloud the champonship. Harmony also is unbeaten at 5-0 and 3-0 in the conference. The game also counts in the 7A-6 district standings.

Clark Challenge

The third annual Chandler Clark Challenge golf tournament will be held Sept. 29 at Royal St. Cloud Golf Club at 8 a.m.

Proceeds benefit Chandlers Legacy Inc., which provides scholarships to local high school students and promotes awareness of teen violence.

National volleyball

Volunteers are needed for the NCCAA National Women’s Volleyball Championship scheduled Nov. 8-10 at the Kissimmee Civic Center.

Florida Christian College is hosting the event.

Anyone interested in volunteering may contact FCC Athletic Director Tom Phillips at 407-569-1343.

Day of Play

The City of Kissimmee Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities Department is participating in Nickleodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play today by offering a free Tennis Play Day.

The USTA in association with MG Tennis will supervise the event at the Oak Street Park Community Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants from age 6 to 10 are welcome.

Osc. Senior Softball

Osceola Senior Softball welcomes players ages 55-over for pickup games year around.

All skill levels are welcome. The games are played Mondays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m. at the Denn John fields, adjacent to Valencia College. SC Aquatic Team

The  St. Cloud Aquatic Team, a U.S.  Swimming affiliate, welcomes swimmers ages 5-and-over who have experience swimming the length of the pool with a crawl stroke.
