St. Cloud’s game at Rockledge last week was postponed because of rain, and it looked like the Bulldogs might be idled two weeks in a row before Agape Christian, Friday’s opponent at Gannarelli Field, made a mandatory insurance payment to the Florida High School Athletic Association Tuesday.

The game, St. Cloud’s home opener, will be played as scheduled at 7:30 p.m.

The FHSAA does not permit member schools to take the field in any sport unless they are up-to-date on their payments to the association.

“They said they were going to make the payment. It won’t be good if we have to miss another week,” St. Cloud Coach Brad Lennox said.

The Rockledge game, one of many affected by bad weather last week, was rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

“They don’t have school that week, so they asked if they could play Thursday. They don’t have to get up early and go to school the next day, but we do,” Lennox said.

The Bulldogs, 0-1, will face a difficult stretch of games over the next month beginning next week at Gateway, then at Leesburg, home withOsceola and at Liberty. All except Leesburg are in 7A District 6 and likely will define St. Cloud’s chance of advancing in the postseason.

The Bulldogs have reached the playoffs three of the past four years.

Lennox said his team will be ready to play Friday.

“We’re a little banged up, but we’ll have a great practice and be ready to go,” Lennox said.
