United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill has announced that John David Baker, 29, of Celebration, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges.

Baker is charged with production, transportation and possession of child pornography. On each of the two production counts, Baker faces at least 15 years and up to 30 years in federal prison. On each of the 15 transportation counts, Baker faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in federal prison. On the possession count, Baker faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Baker was arrested today (Friday) today in Celebration and had his initial appearance and arraignment in federal court in Orlando. Baker is being held in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending his detention hearing. The detention hearing will be in Orlando before United States Magistrate Judge Karla R. Spaulding Monday at 2 p.m.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and the former Child Predator Cybercrime Unit of the Florida Attorney General’s Office.  It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.  Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
