Disfunctional School Board
To the Editor: Recently, we read, in the Osceola News Gazette, of the early retirement of school superintendent Terry Andrews.  Like Dr. Michael Greco, Mr. Andrews seems to be the latest victim of the grim reaper, Cindy Hartig, and her imps, the Osceola County School Board.
How is it, Mr. Editor, that in less then a blink of an eye, this School Board has managed to run off one of the best qualified man in the state of Florida, and another man, who was making good progress for the school system, and intimately for our children--a man “hand picked” by these school board wanna-bees ?
It seems to me that we have no School Board – just five over-sized children who cannot play in a sandbox together, and find fault with everything, and everyone, all while they are wasting our tax dollars, and getting nothing done for the children that they are charged with overseeing.
I recently wrote a letter to Tom Long, telling him that while, to some degree, I agreed with his criticism of Jay Wheeler, he took his best shot with the ethics board, and came up short.  No problem – time to move on, and work with Mr. Wheeler, for the betterment of the system, the taxpayers, and the children.  I believe that for the most part, he has done just that.
I know that when you get a group of people together, that there will be disagreements as to how to get things accomplished.  But the petty bickering, and the total chaos of every meeting, to the extent that it ruins any attempt to make progress toward making our school system better, is a violation of their oath to serve the people, and our children.
This is something every single board member is guilty of.  Each and every board member should, as claiming to be grown adults, resign effective today, because they have violated the sacred trust of the taxpayers, and our children, by this constant attack on each other, and on these two fine men who were our school superintendents.
This board has wasted too much time and money with their petty attacks on everything that moves--to the extent that they have no credibility, and have no ability to move this school system forward.  In fact, they have put this system in the ditch so far that only a person who is a glutton for punishment would even consider being our next superintendent.
With their track record of destruction and disaster, how can we possibly hope to get a quality person to run this school system?
How long are the taxpaying citizens, and the parents of the school system children going to put up with this board of attack pit bulls?
Cindy Hartig is by far the worst of all, demanding that everyone kiss the back side of her anatomy! And Barbara Horn is becoming a Cindy Hartig wanna-be.
Finally, it seems like yet another ethics violation has occurred, with the recent motion against Mr. Andrews by Barbara Horn, and then Cindy Hartig just happening to have a box full of “evidence” against him, to go along with Horn’s motion.  With this school board, we have no government in the sunshine--we have a “stick it where the sun does not shine” government!
This board has lost its ability to function, and thereby oversee the business of the good people of Osceola County, its taxpayers, and most of all, the children who attend our schools.
I would recommend to all parents that they consider alternatives for the education of their children.  Home schooling, Heritage Christian School, Southland Christian School, or if you are Catholic, St. Thomas Aquinas, are just a few to strongly consider.
Parents, it is your responsibility to see that your children receive a quality education!
How can they with a school board that is at odds with everything--especially themselves.  I thank God my son is an adult, and out of the line of fire of these irresponsible power-mongers!

My suggestion is go to the next board meeting and when the bickering starts, stand up and express your opinion to all especially to the biggest bully that graces one of the chairs: Jay Wheeler and Mr Gonnella if you do chose to express yourself in public without having to stand before them at the podium please let me know and I will stand up with you because other then Jay I am getting tired all the others as well.
