Kissimmee police officers arrested a Kissimmee man in reference to burglarizing vehicles.

Christopher Muniz, 20, was charged with burglary to a conveyance after he was caught by a patrolling police officer.

On Saturday at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded to the Chelsea Square apartments in reference to a burglary. A witness called police after watching an unknown man walking in between vehicles, looking into windows and trying door handles. The witness saw the suspect enter a vehicle and look around inside. While in the process of calling the police, the witness lost sight of the suspect, but was able to provide a description, Kissimmee Police Department spokesman Stacie Miller said.

Another officer was patrolling a neighboring apartment community when a subject, matching the suspect description, jumped the wall between the two communities right in front of the officer’s patrol car, Miller said.

The subject was detained and the witness was brought over to identify him as the person entering the vehicles. The witness positively identified Muniz, who was in possession of a laptop, which was determined to have been taken from one of the vehicles Muniz had entered in the Chelsea Square community.

The laptop was returned to the owner and Muniz was transported to the Osceola County Jail and held on $1,000 bond.

“This citizen saw suspicious activity taking place and called the police immediately. Because of his quick action, officers were able to make the arrest and return the stolen property. This is an example of citizens and police working together to deter crime,” Chief Fran Iwanski said.
