Open wide for Jaws.
The film, credited with giving birth to the concept of summer box office, makes it Blu-ray debut, Aug. 14.
Definitely one of the most influentional films of all-time (some people are still afraid to go into the water), Jaws (1975) is still one of the best-loved as well as most-watched films ever. It also made young director Steven Spielberg a household name.

Like most films made before the age of digital technoly, Jaws is not amazing in Blu-ray. It will never look as stunning on your HDTV as a recently made film. But it sill looks pretty darned good. The film has gotten a complete digital remastering for the release as well as a 7.1 surround sound. Remember that scene where Quint (Robert Shaw) drags his fingernails down the chalk board at the town meeting to get their attention? The screech will get to you for sure in this new and improved sound system.
If you already have a standard DVD version and you need another reason to make the purchase, the combo pack includes a DVD, digital copy and Ultraviolet. I am really hooked on the Ultraviolet technology. So long as  you have an internet connection, you can watch the movies in your Ultraviolet collection.
I can watch Jaws on my small screen on my smartphone (not bad, but “Bruce the shark” does look more like a sardine) or on my Nexus  7 tablet or laptop.
Another major bonus with the Blu-ray — the disc includes an all-new documentary “The Shark is Still Working.”
This is a feature-length documentary made by fans of the film and not only does it include cast members Richard Dreyfuss, Roy Scheider and Lorraine Gary (and Spielberg), but lots of behind-the-scenes stuff that Jaws fans will love to see.
There is at-home footage with director Spielberg waiting for the Academy Award nominations to be announced, only to hear Jaws was nominated for Best Picture, but he was snubbed in the Best Director category.
Other documentary highlights include an interview with Lee Fiero (Mrs. Kintner, the mother of the young boy eaten by Jaws). Fiero, who memorably slapped (I always think this is the low point of the whole film) Chief Brady (Shroeder) after finding out he knew there was a shark in the water “and still you let people go swimming.”
Fiero said for years after the film was released, men she didn’t know would come up to her asking to be slapped. In recent years, she has refrained from fulfilling their slapping fantasies, she said.
Also noteworthy, Chris Rebello. who played the chief’s older son Michael, has been dead for several years, dieing at the young age of 37.
Other bonus features in the set include Spotlight on Location: The Making  ofJaws, an older feature with interviews with cast and crew.
The set also features deleted scenes and outtakes and the Jaws Archives, a peek inside Jaws with storyboards, production photos and marketing materials as well as a special segment on the Jaws phenomenon.
Jaws is the latest release from Universal as the film studio celebrates its 100th anniversary. The studio is opening its vaults with some great releases every  month on Blu-ray and DVD.
Grimm
This has got to be new golden age of TV science fiction and fantasy. When I was a kid the only quality shows of the gengre were Star Trek, Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.
Now there is pretty much a  different series on TV every night, not to mention the programming on the Syfy Channel.
One of the newest, and out on Blu-ray DVD Tuesday, is Grimm (Universal).
This is definitely scarier than your average show of this ilk, certainly more so than True Blood.
David Giuntoli stars as homicide detective Nick Burkhardt who suddenly discovers he has the ability to recognize werewolves and other supposed creatives of mythology.
Nick finds out via his aunt that he is descended from a long line of criminal profilers known as “Grimms” who keep the usually evil guys among us in check.
Of course, not every creature is bad. Nick is aided in almost every episode by Monroe  (Silas Weir Mitchell) in the battle of supernatural creatures becaue he is one himself.
Others in the cast include Hank Griffin, Nick’s homicide partner, who somehow is oblivious to the secret side of Nick’s life and doesn’t find anything particularly unusual about all these homicides they investigage. Nick also has a girlfriend.
Both the Blu-ray and DVD versions include deleted scenes, a gag reel, The World  of Grimm (an intro to the characters and creatures on the show) and Making Monsters, a behind the scenes look a the monsters and them who make and design them.
August
It’s summertime and a young man’s fancy turns to love. Unfortunately, love comes with a cost in August, a gay romantic drama (Wolfe Video) available on DVD Aug. 14 and via download now.
Troy (Murray Barlett) finds himself drawn back to Los Angeles after living in Barcelona for the past three years. Much of that attraction is from that of his former partner Jonathan (Daniel Dugan) is in the city.
Unfortunately for Troy, with a lot of reluctance, Jonathan has moved on and has a new love. But that won’t stop this from becoming a triangle.
August is a very simple story in terms, not much happens as Troy and Jonathan try to deal with their past and what potentially lies ahead.
Not much happens, beyond the problematic dealings of any love triangle, but August is shot in an artist manner.
August is available at national retailers and can be found more readily online a Netflix, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and VOD destinations such as Comcast, Time Warner, YouTube Movies, Hulu, iTunes and WolfeOnDemand.com.
