The St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of recreational programs and activities year-round. Staff are eagerly preparing for various programs and events that will be offered to the community in August:

Marina Building Banquet Hall Open House: Aug. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m., and Aug. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. The Marina Building Banquet Hall is at 1104 Lakeshore Blvd., second floor. And remember to check out the interactive multimedia kiosk on the first floor’s lobby area.

Men’s and Coed Softball – Registration runs Aug. 6 to 31; $300 per team. Games begin Sept. 12 and Sept. 14.

Men’s 18+ and 30+ Basketball – Registration runs from  Aug. 6 to 24; $250 per team. Games begin Sept. 4 and Sept. 6.

Lifeguard Classes – An Apprentice Lifeguard Class for people ages 11 and up is scheduled for Aug. 6 to 17, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center (3001 17th St.). Cost for each class is $75 for Osceola County residents/$85 for non-residents. A lifeguard class is set for Aug. 13 to 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center. Cost is $225. Applicants must pass a swim test prior to the start of the class. Swim test dates are: August 7 and 9, at 6:30 p.m., and Aug.11 at 1 p.m. Only one swim test must be completed.

Swimming Lessons – The two-week Session 12 swim lessons will run from Aug. 6 to 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 7 p.m., at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center. The 30-minute classes are $35 for Osceola County residents/$45 for non-residents. Sixty-minute classes are $45 for residents/$55 for non-residents.

Session 13 sign-ups are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday, Aug.13, from 6:30 8:30 p.m., at the Civic Center (3001 17th St.). Thirty-minute classes are $35 for Osceola County residents/$45 for non-residents. Sixty-minute classes are $45 for residents/$55 for non-residents.

Movie at the Lakefront – Showing Friday, Aug. 10, at  sunset is “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” at Lakefront Park (1104 Lakeshore Blvd.). A family movie is shown every month on a giant inflatable movie screen. This monthly program is free to the community.

Kids Night Out – An end-of-summer pool party is set for Saturday, Aug. 18, from 7 to 11 p.m., starting at the Civic Center. Cost is $10 per child (dinner and dessert included). The Kids Night Out program offers supervised care and fun activities for children ages 6 to 11, while parents enjoy an evening to themselves.

Dive-In Movie – Saturday, Aug. 18, starting at sunset at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center, “Hook” will be shown.  Cost is $1 per person.

Splish Splash Bash – Activities and games for children ages 1 through 12 are set for Saturday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center. The movie “Little Giants” will be shown starting at sunset. Free admission to this special event.
