Jacque Mitchell
Fishin’ Fun

I was fishing my way out of Goblets Cove this week in the north cut and saw hundreds of bluegill and shell cracker beds. They were literally from one end of the cut to the other.

For any of you who enjoy pan fishing, you might want to give it a try when the full moon is approaching. I’ve got to believe you could go through quite a few crickets and worms.

I’ve talked to a number of bass fishermen this week and I keep getting the same story. Fishing for bass is slow!!

You can usually get a few early in the morning, but most of them are on the small side. They seem to be hanging around by hydrilla edges and want baits that you can fish real, real slow. Baits like Senkos, trick worms, smaller ribbon tail worms and occasionally, a small top water bait may work before the sun comes up.

Your other best bet might be fishing late afternoon into the evening. The only problem with that is that you’ll have to keep your eye on the weather. We’ve had some pretty nasty storms move in late in the day. I don’t mind fishing in a little rain or wind, but I’m off the water when lightning is in the area.

I guess we’re just going to have to do the best we can until the weather cools off for the fishing to pick up. At least you’ll get to see some pretty sunrises and sunsets!
