Two Lakeland men were killed Monday afternoon in a car crash on State Road 60 in Osceola County due to weather conditions, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Alexander Herrera, 37, and Misael Alonso, 38, were traveling westbound on State Road 60 near Kenansville in Herrera’s 2003 Toyota Matrix around 2 p.m. Monday, when Herrera lost control in the rain.

The Toyota traveled into the eastbound lanes of S.R. 60 and crossed into the path of Wade and Brenda Neely, both 50, of Port St. Lucie, in their 2002 Chrysler Concorde. The front of the Neelys’ car collided with the right side of Herrera’s car.

The Toyota then traveled off the road, onto the southbound shoulder of S.R. 60, where it partially overturned. Herrera was ejected. Both Herrera and Alonso were pronounced dead on the scene, patrol reports stated.  Toxicology reports are pending to determine if alcohol played a factor in the accident.

Wade Neely, who was driving, was listed in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Brenda Neely is listed in serious condition.
