Recently, he Osceola Center for Early Learning (School District of Osceola County) hosted the first “Shubert Spring Celebration” at Highlands Elementary School.   Students enrolled in the Osceola County School District’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program were invited to attend the event with their families.  Approximately 300 students and family members were in attendance.
The celebration centered around Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline behavior management program. This program is designed to empower parents/teachers with the emotional intelligence to handle conflict responsibly.  Conscious Discipline teaches skills that support students in their social, emotional and academic development.
Various stations were set up for both children and parents.  Parents were introduced to behavior strategies based on current brain research.  Children participated in face painting, hands-on activities, as well as movement and dance that encouraged impulse control and connection.
A personal appearance also was made from Shubert himself. Shubert is character featured in the Conscious Discipline Shubert literacy series.  Shubert’s set of seven books were designed to teach parents, teachers and students the skills and language to reinforce concepts in the Conscious Discipline behavior management program.
