The St. Cloud Police Department flag football team rumbled through the competition in a recent statewide law enforcement contest to make the playoffs.

Unfortunately, it fell short reaching for the trophy.

During the week of June 18-22, members of the St. Cloud Police Department travelled to Ft. Pierce to participate in the 2012 Florida Police and Fire Games - Flag Football Division. The Florida Law Enforcement Games were established in 1985, but this was the first time the St. Cloud Police Department participated in the flag football division, according to a department press release.

The team consisted of eight St. Cloud police officers, an Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputy and two Kissimmee Police Department officers. The team made it to the playoffs with a 4-2 record. During a game on June 21, the team was winning 12-6 at halftime against Miami Dade Police Department. But it ended up losing 22-12.

The Florida Police and Fire Games are open to Florida law enforcement officers, firefighters, and military personnel (active duty, reserves, National Guard and retirees from all military branches). The games are held the third week each June. There are approximately 5,000 competitors representing more than 200 different agencies competing in 45-plus Olympic-style sporting events.
