Rebecca Borders
St. Cloud mayor

St. Cloud’s Nolte Road is now open to the public!
The city of St. Cloud officials opened Nolte Road June 9 ahead of schedule.

The Nolte Road Extension Project was a success. City and Osceola County residents and visitors to St. Cloud will see the benefits more and more every day. Residents will see that ambulance and that police officer arrive just a bit quicker. Motorists will get to where they’re going a bit quicker too and the traffic on 13th Street will be reduced to mostly the people who have business to take care of there. Drivers just trying to get across town will turn to Nolte Road as a great alternative to 13th Street.
St. Cloud officials thanked everyone for their support in this project that will benefit so many people today and in the future. The Nolte Road Extension Project construction began in the fall of 2010 and was completed more than $1 million under budget and two months earlier than projected. We are grateful to all those people who stood by this project and worked hard to help make it come to fruition.
This project brought jobs to the local area with approximately 80 percent of the work completed by local contractors and only 20 percent by companies that offer specialty items not available locally. Project Executive Tom Maurer thanked the city of St. Cloud, Osceola County, and the residents for trusting his company to complete this project. ooo
St. Cloud also participated in this year’s The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on June 14 at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center. The Parks and Recreation Aquatic Staff broke a record of its own during this year’s event. Last year, 27 children and adults participated, but this year’s The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson brought in 119 children and adults to the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center. This event promotes water safety and educates the communities as summer approaches. The other goal is to break the Guinness World Record. The worldwide event in 2011 established the record with 20,000 participants representing 13 countries and 45 U.S. states. Make sure you check out the Parks and Recreation swimming lessons that are ongoing.
Rebecca  Borders is the mayor of the city of St. Cloud.
