Enough is Enough

To the editor:

The Osceola County School Board meeting held on June 19 should have been valuable time spent focusing on our county’s children and the quality education they deserve.

The talk should have centered around improving curriculum and instruction, effective teacher training, and exciting plans for the upcoming school year. Instead, the majority of the three-hour meeting was once again filled with the distractions and disruptions for which Osceola’s School Board meetings have become known, including finger pointing, raised voices, derogatory accusations, and verbal attacks against the Superintendent, staff, and individual Board members.

As a long-time Osceola County resident and someone who has been involved with our schools for nearly two decades, I want to loudly say “Enough is Enough” of the outlandish behavior.

Anyone can see this behavior from our Osceola County School Board members is nothing short of unproductive and reflects poorly on our community and our schools. My promise to students, parents, and citizens is that better things are yet to come when I am elected to the district 3 seat on the Osceola School Board on Aug. 14.

Together, we can create a world-class education system and prepare our students for success in a 21st century economy. To do this, I pledge to keep academics and curriculum in the forefront, always asking how programs and ideas will benefit children, teachers, and yield better results. At the same time, I will address challenges and pledge to work with fellow board members and staff on solutions in a professional and rational manner. Through teamwork, an atmosphere of positive and effective leadership can be created to best lead our school district.

I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication shown in our schools by our students, teachers, support staff, and school administrators. Our community deserves a representative in District 3 willing to focus on “we” instead of “me” and makes decisions based on what is right for children. I would be honored to serve with strong leadership, a level head, a caring heart, and an open mind.

Contact City Hall

To the editor:

Recently while looking at some photos of Kissimmee as it was years ago, I came across one of the Monument of States.

I noticed the American flag used to be mounted on top. I don’t know when or why it was removed but if City Hall is serious about sprucing up the area downtown they should give the monument a face-lift and return the flag to its place of honor.

I am asking everyone who cares to join me in calling City Hall this week. Be respectful, be courteous, but ask that the American Flag be returned to the top of the Monument of States.

No one is saying that the city is any way intentionally disrespecting the flag. If I had to guess it probably came down in one of our many storms. But it’s time for the city of Kissimmee to do the right thing.

Now if we could find someone to run District One and get the "mouth of Osceola County" out that would be wonderful. We need people who will fight for our children, not someone who flip flops on issues. Isn't that right Mr. Wheeler..... the man flip flops when it suits him. First he was against Andrews and at the last board member now he's for Andrews and all of a sudden he cares about the children of this county, once again when it suits him or he can have his ego stroke by the media.
