Austyn Jandrew made the move from Harmony to St. Cloud High School for his senior year.

He’ll be making another move in a few months when he enrolls in Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., but he’ll still be a Bulldog.

Jandrew will play receiver for the NCAA Division III Bulldog football team, coached by Jim Deere.

Adrian was 8-2 last season and 4-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Jandrew celebrated his college plans last week at the St. Cloud gym with more than a dozen family members and teammates on hand.

“I looked at several schools, but I think this will work the best,” he said.

Jandrew became the second member of the Bulldogs’ receiving corps to sign a college letter of intent.

Jandrew’s teammate, Cole Harvey, signed in February to Florida Tech in Melbourne.

“I really wanted to stay in Florida at first, but the way things worked out, this is better for me,” Jandrew said.

He won’t lack for fan support in Michigan since many family members already live there. His mother and step-father, Michelle and Thomas Grabowski, are moving to Adrian, located about 90 miles west of Toledo, Ohio, this summer.

“He’ll have a lot of support in the stands,” Michelle Grabowski, a former St. Cloud High athlete of the year for cross country, said.

Jandrew’s father, Jasen Jandrew, held the St. Cloud record (13-3) for the pole vault when he graduated.

“Austyn has developed into a great athlete and a great person. We’re extremely proud of him,” Jasen Jandrew said.

Jandrew, with assistance from St. Cloud Coach Brad Lennox, met the Adrian coaches at a high school combine at Lake Wales earlier this year. He also considered offers from other schools, like Greensboro College in North Carolina and from Pikeville College in Kentucky where former Harmony coach Dayne Brown is an assistant.

“He’s a great kid, I wish I had 100 more like him,” Lennox said. “My godson is the starting wide receiver (at Adrian), so hopefully that will help Austyn out.”

Jandrew led an explosive Bulldogs offense in receiving yardage (660 yards) and he averaged 17.4 yards per catch. He scored eight touchdowns.

“They run some spread and some pro-set, a lot of the same offenses we’ve run,” Jandrew said.

Chad Ansbaugh, who was the interim head football coach last season, said Jandrew should have a successful college career.

“This will work out great for him. Austyn has the pedigree. I’m pretty sure that his mother’s mile record at St. Cloud was broken a couple of weeks ago, and his dad was a very good athlete as well. He is everything any coach could want, and Coach Lennox really stepped up and helped finish this off,” Ansbaugh said.

Jandrew, who runs a 4.5 40-yard dash, also was a member of the Bulldogs’ 4 x 100 relay team that qualified for the Class 3A state meet and earned a spot in the finals before teammate Eric Pfeifer pulled his hamstring during the first leg, causing the team to DQ in the finals.

Jandrew spent his first three years of high school at Harmony, where he was primarily a basketball player.

Jandrew plans to major in sports training or sports management at Adrian.
