Workshop Descriptions

Uncovering the Hidden Job Market – Eighty percent of job openings are never advertised. These coveted opportunities exist only in the world of the hidden job market. This workshop provides strategies for uncovering hidden jobs, approaching employers before an opening exists and networking your way to your next job.

Supercharge Your Job Search with Social Media - With the advancement of technology, the job search process is changing as new tools are developed. This workshop will explain why social media is not just a passing fad and demonstrate how to effectively use two of the most popular social networking sites to search for jobs.

Network Strategies – What does networking really mean? How important is it in job search? This workshop will answer these and other questions related to effective network strategies. During this seminar, we will explore self-promotion techniques and share tips for maximizing network opportunities.

Resume Writing — This workshop will identify the four major types of resumes; discuss the components of resumes; provide tips and techniques for writing a cover letter; identify skills needed for the desired position; and discuss the most effective methods of conveying job-related and transferable skills.

Planning and Preparing for the Interview — Identify techniques for creating positive first impressions during the interview process. Review commonly asked interview questions, discuss answers to difficult interview questions and learn the best ways to follow up with an employer after the interview.

Introduction to Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) – This workshop introduces the components of WCF’s online job bank, Employ Florida Marketplace, including how to successfully navigate through the system, complete an online resume, search for jobs and create a virtual recruiter.

PC 101 – In today’s competitive job market, the lack of computer skills can hinder your ability to find and keep a good job. In this interactive workshop you will:

•  Gain essential computer skill; learn the fundamentals of operating a computer; understand basic operating systems, hardware and software; discuss input and output devices and different types of storage; gain proficiency using the mouse and keyboard; practice navigating windows and perform basic word processing and e-mail and Internet functions.
