Osceola County Sheriff's Office detectives Monday announced they had concluded a weeklong, multi-agency, undercover operation that resulted in 12 suspects arrested and charged with soliciting sex from a child via the Internet and other sex- and drug-related crimes. The agency had a similar operation in January.

The current operation, led by the Sheriff's Office and called "Spring Cleaning,” was conducted March 19-25.

“The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is committed to aggressively combating this issue and we will continue to conduct these types of operations to protect our children from these offenders,” Sheriff Bob Hansell said in a press release.

During the operation, undercover detectives, posed as juveniles, or the parent or guardian of a juvenile, to talk with individuals in chat rooms and instant messaging programs on the Internet. Suspects would travel to a meeting place in Osceola County with the purpose of having sex with a child. One suspect traveled from New York. All the suspects were arrested in Osceola County.

“We can't stress enough that parents need to monitor and be involved with their child's computer activities,” Hansell said.

The following individuals were arrested:

Christian Acuna, 29, of Orlando: use of computer solicit parent/guardian, travel to meet a child for sex, travel to meet child for sex, attempted lewd and lascivious battery on a victim 12-15 years of age and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. Occupation: cook.

Floyd Drew, 30, of 4522 Ross Lanier Lane, Kissimmee: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit a child to commit sex. Occupation: concrete cutter.

Mohamed El Mazid, 39, of 3038 Parkway Blvd., Kissimmee: Traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit a child to commit sex. Occupation: kiosk clerk.

Justin Charles French, 30, of 4167 Quail Wood Drive, St. Cloud: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit a child to commit sex. Occupation: pool maintenance.

Matthew Wesley Hope, 26, 105 Holborn Loop, Davenport: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of a computer service to solicit a child to commit sex. Occupation: financial analyst.

John Scott Huebner, 49, of Orlando: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit a child to commit sex. Occupation: real estate owner.

Willie James Inman Jr., 30, of West Palm Beach: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit child to commit sex, lewd and lascivious exhibition. Occupation: janitor

Jerrid Michaels Jackson, 23, of Lakeland: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit child to commit sex. Occupation: mover.

Brandon Lee Luong, 33, of Ocoee: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit child to commit sex.

Scott Patrick Mulligan, 37, of Orlando: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit child to commit sex. Occupation: car body repair worker.

Matthew Sawtelle, 43, of Port Richey: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit child to commit sex.

Fawaz Shahid, 36, of Brooklyn, N.Y.: traveling to meet a minor for sex, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, attempted lewd and lascivious battery, use of computer service to solicit child to commit sex. Occupation: unemployed.
