St. Cloud High senior Lynnsey Glunt keeps a hectic pace through the school year, and it won’t let up after she graduates in two months.

Glunt has signed a soccer scholarship to Kissimmee’s Florida Christian College last week and will be a member of the college’s inaugural team under Coach Doug Johnson.

Glunt, 18, was a midfielder for the Lady Bulldogs last season and said she is looking forward to continuing her career with the Suns.

“I’ve been playing soccer nine or 10 years. I enjoy it,” she said. “I picked Florida Christian because it is a school that has close ties with my church, and I know many people there. I’ll feel comfortable there.”

Johnson said he likes the fact that Glunt, who also plays volleyball, flag football and weightlifting at St. Cloud, is a versatile athlete.

“She is one of those players that could play anywhere you need her to,” Johnson said. “She is a solid player and the kind of girl that I want to have representing FCC soccer.”

Glunt said she likes moving forward as a midfielder and taking shots on goal.

“I probably had three or four (goals) last season. Mostly I stayed back and was a defensive midfielder, and that was OK,” she said.

Glunt moved with her family to Florida during her freshman year from Baltimore.

She is playing receiver for the Lady Bulldogs’ flag football team under Coach Chad Ansbaugh. If FCC elects to play that sport as well, Glunt said she is all in.

“I love flag football. I’d probably sign a scholarship for flag football before soccer if they had it,” she said.

For now, Glunt and FCC will concentrate on creating a successful soccer program. The team will play a 16-game schedule next fall and compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II. The Lady Suns will be in the South Region against Clearwater Christian and Toccoa Falls College in Georgia.

Johnson has filled the schedule with colleges from the NCAA and NAIA ranks.

“We are really excited to have Lynnsey as part of our first-year program,” Johnson said. “She will add tremendous value to our program here.”
