The Florida Christian College mens basketball team, ranked among the top 10 in two national polls, is competing for a spot in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II national tournament.

The Suns, 14-13, traveled to Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Ga. Friday for the South Region tournament championship.

The winner of the regional tournament advances to the national tournament March 6-10 at Springfield, Mo.

“We’ve had a great season,” Suns Coach Jake Deer said. “We had a big win over Clearwater Christian last week to set us up for the regionals. The guys are playing great.”

FCC is ranked No. 8 in the NCCAA D-II poll, up three spots since beating Clearwater Christian. The Suns are No. 7 in the Christian College Sports Network poll.

“We’re looking forward to it. I think we have a great chance to reach the national tournament,” Deer said.

Former Poinciana High player Terrence Taylor is averaging 14.2 points per game for the Suns and was a second-team All-American last year, Deer said.

“He’s a great leader for us,” the coach said.

A.J. Williams (18.5) leads the team in scoring and is an All-American candidate, said Deer.  Montique Lynch, from Cypress Creek, averages 10.6 points and Quinton Haugabook, the team’s only senior, is scoring 12.2 points per game and is a candidate for the All-Region team.

FCC is located on Bill Beck Boulevard, just off Boggy Creek Road, near the Osceola County Stadium complex.
