Northern Canada has polar bears and Antarctica has penguins, but for the next month Osceola County will have its own ice native — Shrek.

Shrek and friends are the stars of the latest edition of Ice! at the Gaylord Palms Resort. The annual holiday attraction returned last week with its all-new frozen spectacle — Shrek the Halls.

The 16,000 square-foot attraction features frozen versions of Shrek as well as other DreamWorks animated characters.

To keep Shrek and friends from experiencing a meltdown, Ice! is kept at a constant 9-degrees throughout the event.

Also part of the the holidays at Gaylord Palms is Snow!, featuring a 130-tons of snow made daily, a rare treat for Central Floridians, including youngsters who never normally get a chance to make a real snowball.

Snow! is kept a pretty constant 55-degrees.

You should bring gloves, but admission to Ice! includes the loan of a parka to keep Osceola County residents and other visitors as well, warm. Closed shoes and long pants are also a necessity.

As always, the giant carved figures of Ice! were created by artisans from Harbin, China, home to one of the world’s most renowned ice and snow festivals.

In addition to Ice! and Snow!, Gaylord Palms has more holiday fun through Jan. 2.

Free events include visits with Santa and daily ceremonial lighting of the resort’s 50-foot tall Christmas tree.

Gaylord Palms also is offering the Christmassy Dreamworks Experience Package. One-night rates per person at the hotel start at $149 and include exclusive events such as the Shrekfest Interactive Character Meals, featuring many photo opportunities with Shrek, Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots and more.

Other paid options at the resort include gingerbread house decorating and the Dreamworks Animation 3D Theater Experience, featuring the film Puss in Boots in 3D and movie munchies.  Prices range from $21.95-$24.95.

Prices for Ice! range from $13.99-$29.99; prices for Snow ! range from $11.99-$22.99.

Parking is an additional cost at Gaylord Palms as well.
