The city of St. Cloud Parks and Recreation staff is preparing for the upcoming November activities, including:
Movie at the Lakefront: “Cars 2” will be shown Friday, Nov. 18, starting at sunset. A family movie is shown at Lakefront Park every month on a giant inflatable movie screen. This year-round monthly program is free to the community.
Community Thanksgiving celebration: Everyone is invited to partake in this traditional event Saturday, Nov. 19, from noon to 2 p.m., at the St. Cloud Civic Center, 3001 17th St. Admission is free, but donations of nonperishable food items for the St. Cloud Community Pantry are welcome and everyone is invited to bring a covered dish or dessert (if they are able to) to share with others.
Kids Night Out: November’s event is a laser tag night set for Saturday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the Civic Center. Cost is $10 per child (dinner and dessert included). The program offers supervised care and fun activities for children ages 6-11 while parents enjoy an evening to themselves.
School’s Out, Fun’s In Day Camps: Three day camps are set for Nov. 21-23,  from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Civic Center. Cost for each day camp is $20 for Osceola County residents and $25 for non-Osceola County residents; reduced rates are available for those who qualify. Registration is required.

First three weeks of curbside recycling a success in St. Cloud
The city of St. Cloud Public Services Solid Waste staff has announced that the first three weeks of curbside single-stream recycling in the city have been successful.
“Participation has been very good during the first weeks of our recycling program,” Public Services Administrator Randy Jackson said. “We truly appreciate the support and enthusiasm of our customers. Customers paid attention to the list of recyclables; the recycling center’s personnel have been impressed with the quality of our recyclable stream. We encourage customers currently recycling to continue and for those not yet recycling to give it a try. The benefits of recycling are many – economically and environmentally. And any benefits in these areas automatically benefit the city as a whole. This is a great way for the community to improve an already fantastic city.”
Customers are reminded that no additional charge was added for recycling. The city schedule is 1-1-1: garbage collection one day per week, recycling collection one day per week and yard waste collection one day per week. Only the maroon cart should be rolled out on garbage collection day, only the blue cart should be rolled out on recycling collection day, and only the green cart should be rolled out on yard waste collection day.
Plastic bottles are recyclable; however, customers are asked to dispose of plastic bags, Styrofoam/plastic foam and shredded paper in the garbage. All recyclable material should have the lids removed, be rinsed, and placed loosely in the blue carts – not in bags, particularly plastic grocery bags, plastic garbage bags or plastic sleeve bags. Placing recyclable items in bags impedes sorting at the recycling center.
The city of St. Cloud’s goal is for every customer to participate in curbside recycling. However, drop-off recycling centers continue to be available to the public.
For a complete listing of recyclables or for more details on the curbside recycling program, visit www.stcloud.org or call the Solid Waste Division at 407-957-7289.
